Eating Noodles by Nightlight: A Memoir. At the risk of sounding dramatic, death has clung to me my whole life, since the very beginning. My father was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer the same week I was born. What was supposed to be the happiest time in my parents’ new life together was spoiled beyond their wildest imaginations. My father died a year later. I wasn’t even two-years-old yet. My birth had somehow become tangled with my father’s death. Fun birthdays, right? My mother raised me on her own and we were happy. Then, lo and behold, she got cancer too. I watched her suffer and wither away for over a year before she died in my arms. I had just turned 18. Dramatic, right?! And that’s just my childhood! Well, ten years later and I’m finally pulling it together and ready to put it on the page. I want to synthesize my life and my pain in the best way I know how and that’s through writing. Plus there are stories of me backpacking through islands and parties that lasted so long I forgot what day it was but those are just for fun.

Never Not Doing Laundry: A newsletter by and about Erin Kay Shaw. This is the place for all things Erin Kay Shaw, on a monthly basis. Sometimes it’ll be the lowdown on projects I’m doing for school, sometimes it may even be excerpts from such projects. Other months it might be musings on something that happened to me, or ideas rattling around in my mind, or it might be some far-flung meditation on life and death or why there are so many damn gnats in Savannah.
